Sensei Nathan Olson Sensei Nathan Olson

Qualifications: Level 3 certificate in boxing instruction
Membership: FSKA, BC Boxing Association, Canadian Amateur Boxing Association

Nathan has been teaching and competing in martial arts for 23 years. He began practicing Karate at the age of 6, and by 10 was teaching other kids at Colwood Pee-Wee Karate. Over the years he has studied under various instructors including Sensei Lynden Bateson, Sensei Mike Puckett, Sensei Jim Beckett and Sensei Darcy Anderson. He received the rank of Sandan in 1999.

Nathan began boxing in 1994 and has since obtained certification in boxing instruction. In 2005, 2008 and 2009 he successfully trained three students of Olson’s Gym to become provincial boxing champions.

Membership: BC Boxing Association, Canadian Amateur Boxing Association and Victoria Amateur Boxing Society

Al opened Olsons’s Gym in 1994 where he taught Karate to kids and adults and ran an Amateur Boxing program. He currently teaches Basic and Superior boxing with Nathan, and runs the women’s only cardio boxing program three days a week at Olson’s Gym.

Peter began his study of Karate under Sensei Sam McGee (student of Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa - Founder and Chief Instructor of the Shotokan Karate International Federation), at the Nanaimo Karate Club in 1978.

In 2004, he was awarded the rank of Godan by Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi, Founder and Chief Instructor of the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association. Peter was also awarded the rank of Shodan in 2007 by Sensei Hidemi Tamayose of the Ryukyu Kobudo Tesshinkan – an organization dedicated to the preservation of the ancient Okinawan art of Kobudo (weapons).

Mark has been studying Judo for over 40 years, including five years training at the Kokushi Kan (National Warriors Hall) in Japan. He has won numerous Masters titles in Canada, the U.S.A and the world. 1998 he received permission from the Kokushi Kan, to open the Kokushi Kai (National Warriors Association), in Victoria BC, where he continues to train and instruct students.

Master Warren J Lee has trained in the art of Tae Kwon-do since 1974.

His training began in Port Alberni BC, at Kwon's Tae Kwon-do – the first Tae Kwon-do school on Vancouver Island. Kwon's Tae Kwon-do’s Head School was in Victoria BC, run by Master Tae Soung Kwon.

In 1980, Master Warren opened a school in Port Alberni, maintaining the tradition of Kwon's Tae Kwon-do system and teachings (Chung Do Kwon). In 2000, he changed the name of his school to Dragon Martial Arts Academy.

Master Warren also trains in Gracie Jiu Jitsu with Professor Royce Gracie, and is the only certified Royce Gracie Instructor and G.R.A.C.I.E (Gracie Retention and Control for Immediate Enforcement) Law enforcement Instructor in Canada.

Master Warren Instructs at Dragon Martial Arts Academy in Port Alberni, and will oversee the Tae Kwon-do and Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu curriculum at Olson’s Gym.
