Karate (Empty Hand)
Olson’s Martial Arts instructs students in the traditional Japanese style of Shotokan Karate, founded in Japan by Gichin Funikoshi (1868–1957).
Ages 4-6 years
In this program our Little Ninjas learn more than basic Karate techniques such as, kicks, punches, blocks, entry level sparring and wrestling. Students are also taught respect, discipline and cooperation through games designed to motivate and build self-confidence.
Ranking: Little Ninjas earn stripes on their belts as their skills progress.
Ages 7-13 years
Through emphasis on proper execution of kicks, punches, blocks and Kata, goal setting begins as students work toward earning belts. Students are encouraged to gain additional experience by participating in local tournaments. Wrestling and intermediate-level sparring is also included in this program.
Ranking: Students begin this program with a white belt and are awarded belts after successful promotion through testing.
**Black belts are not awarded to students under the age of 16.
Prerequisite: orange belt or two years experience practicing Shotokan Karate.
This program focuses on refining techniques and advancing skills such as basics, Kata and sparring. Games are also incorporated to add variety and keep students motivated as they work toward their black belt goal. Advanced Children’s Karate is also a great way to help students transition into our Adult Karate program.
Ranking: Students are awarded belts after successful promotion through testing.

Ages 13 years+
Our Adult Karate program is designed for students of all skill levels, and no previous experience is necessary.
Join us for a great workout while challenging yourself to develop new skills. From basic techniques and sparring, to Kubudo (weapons) and black belt level Kata, this program has something for everyone.
Ranking: Students are awarded belts after successful promotion through testing.
